If Cameroon lose, Andre Onana will return to Manchester

For Cameroon’s crucial Africa Cup of Nations group matchup against Gambia, Andre Onana has been benched. After Manchester United‘s match against Tottenham on January 14, the custodian for Manchester United experienced flight issues, which prevented him from playing in his country’s inaugural match against Guinea.

He began their second game, which ended in a 3-1 loss to Senegal, the reigning champions and winners of Group C. However, Cameroon decided to start Fabrice Ondoa again against Gambia in their last group match.

The Insurmountable Lions are third in their group and need to beat the Gambia in addition to Senegal’s win over Guinea to advance automatically.

Onana will miss the opening of the competition, as agreed upon by United and the Cameroon FA. United will pay £79,000 to have Onana flown there by private aircraft.

When he entered the game in their second encounter with Senegal, they were down 3-1 and would have to make an early exit.

Onana travelled straight from Manchester to the AFCON; in fact, the team rented a private aircraft to get him there. However, despite showing up in time to play, he did not feature in the tournament’s opening match. After Onana was added back to the lineup, Cameroon drew 1-1 with Guinea in their first match and lost 3-1 to Senegal in their second match.

Onana is a seasoned politician who has won 37 caps. Fabrice Ondoa, who will take his position for Tuesday’s match, is a 49-cap football player with Nimes Olympique in the French third division.

The goalie’s confidence is probably going to take a serious hit as a result of his absence. He has struggled both locally and abroad, having made a long list of errors when playing for United under Erik ten Hag.
