Ballon d'Or 2004 winner Andriy Shevchenko elected as Ukraine FA President
Andriy Shevchenko has scored 48 goals for his nation
Andriy Shevchenko, a striker who played for Chelsea and AC Milan, was overwhelmingly chosen on Thursday to serve as the next leader of the Ukrainian Association of Football.
The UAF stated Shevchenko had received 93 out of 94 votes at its congress. Shevchenko was allowed to cast the 94th vote in his capacity as a delegate, but he chose not to do so.
With 48 goals in 111 appearances between 1995 and 2012, he is the all-time leading goalscorer in Ukraine. Along with Milan, he claimed the Ballon d’Or in 2003 and the Champions League the following year.
He takes over as UAF president from Andriy Pavelko, who also serves on the UEFA executive council and has held the position since 2015. Pavelko is scheduled to go on trial in Ukraine in an ongoing legal battle about allegations of embezzlement.
After the verdict, the choice was made since all UAF members, who are entitled to submit candidates for president, support Shevchenko’s candidature.

The UAF dedicated panel concluded that Andriy Shevchenko’s presidential candidature satisfies the standards and requirements outlined in the UAF charter.
The UAF announced that it had been given a letter from the 47-year-old national team coach and former world-class player indicating his interest in running for president.
Before joining Milan, Shevchenko started his career at Dynamo Kyiv, where he won five consecutive league titles. He became one of Europe’s best strikers while playing for Milan, where he claimed the UEFA Champions League in 2003.
In Italy, England, and the Ukraine, he also won numerous league and cup championships. Also, he finished second in the Champions League in both 2005 and 2008.
He was listed in the 2005 FIFA World XI. He was awarded the Ballon d’Or and included among the top 100 best-living football players in 2004 as part of FIFA’s 100th anniversary celebrations.
