Barcelona consider ending 25+ years partnership with Nike

Barcelona & Nike have a 25+ year-long bond
Nike has been Barcelona’s one of the oldest sponsors. The brand started sponsoring the club in 1998 and since then it has been the only sponsor the club have had.
However, now the club is considering terminating its sponsorship with Nike due to financial reasons and Puma has emerged as a fresh sponsor which is ready to provide greater revenue than Nike.
It might, however, finish sooner because Barcelona and Nike are reportedly at odds right now. In addition, Puma has become a strong competitor to take the position of the American business, which would supposedly bring in a lot more money for the Catalans annually in sponsorship.
Nike at no cost, as long as they offer two years’ notice, which would allow them to continue until the contract’s expiration in 2026. But if they decide to break things off sooner, they may have to spend between €20 and €25 million to sever their connections in 2025; if they wish to break up sooner, the cost would be considerably greater.
Barcelona are in a difficult condition because of its well-known financial problems. Taking a quick hit might prove preferable in the long run, though it’s debatable if they can truly bear the initial blow given that they will probably earn a lot more money from Puma.

The couple started dating in 1998, and the provisions of the most recent contract arrangement state that the partnership will last until at least 2026.
According to MD, sources at Barça did not reject Puma’s interest but instead chose to keep the topic under wraps because it is a “complicated issue” among the club’s decision-makers. This is largely because of the rapidly weakening relationship between Barça and Nike, who have been having major falling out over the past few years.
Barcelona have been complaining about Nike’s lack of product production, citing frequent supply shortages at the club’s facilities in recent years. Nike attempted to renegotiate their agreement with Barça during the pandemic, but the Blaugrana said they should receive a higher payment because they are one of Nike’s main revenue streams.
