Chelsea & Man United continue ongoing interest in Karim Benzema

Karim Benzema is said to be unhappy at Al-Ittihad
Chelsea and Manchester United have reportedly asked about 36-year-old Karim Benzema’s potential; nevertheless, Saudi authorities are eager to thwart any possible return to Europe, as reported by L’Équipe.
A few months after joining Al-Ittihad on a free move from Real Madrid, Benzema requested to depart, according to an AFP story from earlier in January.
Even if the Frenchman’s group denied the allegations, things are still not looking good for Benzema in the Gulf state as L’Équipe revealed on Monday that he is considering switching to a rival Saudi team.
The veteran Real Madrid forward’s departure back to Europe would be disastrous for the Saudi Pro League’s reputation, thus the Saudi authorities are keen to keep him in the nation.
Nevertheless, Chelsea and Manchester United are still showing interest in Benzema, as they are putting out feelers and reaching out. Benzema’s future is still up in the air with only a few days left in the transfer window, but it looks like he will move to Saudi Arabia instead of going back to Europe.

This month, Benzema was also connected to moves to Chelsea and Arsenal. According to reports, both teams thought the Frenchman would be a useful short-term addition to their attacking lineup.
According to a story in The Guardian, Lyon was also in negotiations with the striker. Manchester United was also monitoring the situation, but his salary made the return to Europe more difficult.
After his deal with Los Blancos expired in the summer of last year, Benzema left Real Madrid.

Aurelio de Laurentiis, the owner of Napoli, declared last week that the 25-year-old will be leaving the Serie A winners this summer.
