Barcelona's Joao Cancelo out for few weeks after suffering knee injury against Las Palmas

Barcelona aims to sign Joao Cancelo on a permanent deal
A positive update has reached Joao Cancelo and FC Barcelona after the Portuguese full-back’s near-accident on Thursday night.
With a knee injury, Cancelo had to leave the game in the tenth minute of Barça’s 2-1 victory over Las Palmas. Fears of a major injury were raised when the 29-year-old was spotted gripping his knee in agony as he exited the pitch.
Cancelo did, however, have a lateral auxiliary ligament sprain, as the club confirmed in an announcement on Friday morning. Even if the injury is not as severe as a ligament rupture, Cancelo will probably be sidelined for a few weeks.
“The tests carried out this morning revealed that first-team player João Cancelo suffered a sprain of the medial collateral ligament of his left knee,” the club statement read. “The duration of his absence will depend on his recovery.”

Barça suffers a blow with Cancelo’s injury, since they are currently without Sergiño Dest because of a hamstring problem. With Dani Alves and Ronald Araújo sidelined due to injuries, the Catalan team is currently experiencing a defensive crisis.
The injury occurred during his team’s 2-1 victory over Las Palmas yesterday night, forcing the Portuguese international to leave the game in the eleventh minute.
The length of Cancelo’s absence is yet unknown; the club says it will depend on how quickly he recovers.
After signing on loan from Manchester City, the 29-year-old has been an important member of Xavi’s team this year, making 22 appearances and tallying three goals.
