Mohamed Salah returns to Liverpool following injury picked up at AFCON with Egypt

The Liverpool forward suffered a hamstring injury in a game vs Ghana
Mohamed Salah is scheduled to return to Liverpool for his hamstring injury rehab after Egypt’s Africa Cup of Nations group stage match against Cape Verde Islands in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, on Monday.
Following their 4-0 Premier League victory over Bournemouth earlier on Sunday, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp had advised that he continue his therapy at his club, and the Egypt Football Association (EFA) verified this.
Egypt are still hopeful that Salah will be included in the competition, though. Salah sustained the injury on Thursday against Ghana, and there is now no estimated time of recovery. On Saturday in the Ivory Coast, Salah addressed the media but avoided discussing the seriousness of the injury.
“We are hoping to catch him in the semifinals of the Africa Nations Cup in case of qualification,” the EFA said in a statement.
Salah was anticipated to make it back to Liverpool to complete his rehabilitation, or at the very least, to work with the medical team, as Klopp had stated earlier in the day.

“That’s the plan,” Klopp said. “However long he is out, it probably makes sense for everybody to [rehab] with us [in Liverpool] or with our people. That’s the plan. If that’s written in stone already, I don’t know.”
Liverpool easily defeated Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on Sunday to increase their advantage at the top of the Premier League to five points despite Salah’s absence. After both Darwin Núñez and Diogo Jota scored twice in the second half, Klopp was overjoyed with their efforts.
Following a tight first half, Klopp made a change of direction at halftime, playing Jota through the centre and Núñez on the left side of the field.
Even though the strikers scored the game-winning goals, Klopp was pleased with Alexis Mac Allister’s composed performance at the centre of Liverpool’s midfield.
