Arsenal sit third in the Premier League table

We’re in the second half of the Premier League 2023-24 season, and things are heating up at both ends of the table. Arsenal are fighting for the top four and title, occupying third place. They suffered a rough patch to end 2023, going winless in three, including back-to-back defeats to West Ham and Fulham, but returned to successful ways against Crystal Palace last time out.

Nottingham Forest, meanwhile, were getting dangerously close to the relegation zone. A poor run of form under Steve Cooper saw Forest in danger of falling into the bottom three, which caused the board to make a change.

Nuno Espirito Santo was brought in, and while he lost his first game to Bournemouth, Forest won their next two league matches over Manchester United and Newcastle United. However, they suffered a loss to Brentford in the most recent matchday. Forest were held to a goalless draw by Bristol City on Friday night in the FA Cup, leaving them with a replay to squeeze into a busy fixture list.

Kick-Off:

Tuesday, 30th Jan 2024, 07:30 PM (GMT), 02:30 PM (EST)

Wednesday, 31st Jan 2024, 01:00 AM (IST)

Stadium: City Ground

Form

Nottingham Forest Form (All Competitions): D-L-W-D-W

Arsenal Form (All Competitions): W-L-L-L-D

Players to Watch

Callum Hudson-Odoi (Nottingham Forest)

He stands out most for his excellent dribbling, but his decision-making and the timing of when he releases the ball are also strengths. He often shifts the ball away from a defender before passing or crossing, combining two of his major strengths to good effect. Hudson-Odoi also boasts explosive speed from a standing position. Given his impressive balance, he can change direction quickly to lose his opponent. He is therefore very useful in one-on-one situations.

Leandro Trossard (Arsenal)

From central and even wider positions, he has proven to be a major threat if he is allowed too much time and space on the ball. Leandro Trossard establishes a passing connection with the central midfielders and the players in the wider areas. With the ball at his feet, he can either act as a decoy to create space for his teammates by garnering attention from the opposition defence or could provide and even go on to score. Trossard is naturally a hard-working player.

Injury and Team News

Nuno Tavares is ineligible to face his parent club and all six of Forest’s players at the Africa Cup of Nations have reached the knockout stages, meaning Cheikhou Kouyate, Moussa Niakhate, Ola Aina, Ibrahim Sangare, Serge Aurier and Willy Boly are all unavailable. Taiwo Awoniyi remains out with an injury, but Anthony Elanga could return from a thigh issue.

Thomas Partey has returned to full first-team training as he nears a return from a thigh injury. He is unlikely to be rushed back into action, but Partey could make the squad against Forest. Declan Rice is expected to be fit, after coming off against Palace with tightness in his hamstring, while Gabriel Martinelli will hope he has done enough to start after scoring twice off the bench in that game.
