Man United’s new CEO Omar Berrada left Man City

Every football team is envious of Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne of Manchester City. However, Manchester United has scouted their nearby competitor for their next CEO in an attempt to bring back the 20-time English champions to prominence.

After Monaco-based businessman Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s $1.3 billion purchase of a 25% stake in the club, which makes him a partner in ownership with the American Glazer family, Omar Berrada has the difficult task of guiding United into an era of change.

While on gardening leave, Berrada, who resigned as chief football manager at City Football Group, shared his operational values with the Financial Times in a private conversation conducted at City’s Etihad campus in November of last year. These ideas may provide insight into his philosophy at United.

The vice president, born in Paris and with Moroccan ancestry, is moving from a team that won the Champions League, Premier League, and FA Cup in the same season to one that hasn’t won a league championship since legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson left in 2013.

When the 46-year-old was unexpectedly appointed on January 20, the team stated that his task would be to “re-establish Manchester United as a title-winning club.”

Omar Berrada, who came to City from FC Barcelona, has 20 years of football expertise in both business and football management.

The success of City are credited by rival teams and supporters to the financial might of Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed al-Nahyan, an Abu Dhabi royal family member who has owned the team since 2008. The Premier League claims the team is breaking financial standards, and critics point to these claims. City have refuted any misconduct.

Berrada, who speaks gently, is certain that City’s treble-winning season was “by design, not by luck.” “Success on the pitch will come” he declared, if the proper values and approach were followed.

Berrada had a warning for his new club when they are negotiating in the transfer market, saying: “If you have a very solid rationale as to why you’re offering the fee, the salary and the commission, they might not agree with it but they will accept it.

“Once you start overpaying then you lose that argument and that puts you in a much more difficult position to say to the next one, ‘I can only offer you this.'”
