The Super Eagles are one of the favourites to win AFCON 2023

Ahead of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, Nigeria’s Super Eagles arrived at Cote d’Ivoire. On Wednesday morning, the athletes and their representatives departed from Lagos’s Murtala Mohammed International Airport.4

The troop was in a joyful mood as they travelled to Abidjan, dressed in traditional African garb. The Super Eagles arrived from Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, on Tuesday and spent the night in Lagos.

They played two friendlies against local teams Al Gharib and Guinea during their one-week stay in Abu Dhabi. Tuesday night, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu gave the Super Eagles a send-off meal.

Nigeria’s opening match takes place on Sunday at the Alassanne Quattara Stadium in Ebimpe versus Nzalang Nacional of Equatorial Guinea.

Victor Osimhen, the most recent African Player of the Year, is a star on a mission. His goal is to turn the anguish of Nigerian supporters into happiness by winning the Africa Cup of Nations.

The Napoli attacker became the first Nigerian champion since Nwankwo Kanu in 1999 when he won the African poll last month, finishing above Moroccan Achraf Hakimi and Egyptian Mohamed Salah.

It was a prize for netting regularly for the Super Eagles and assisting his team in winning their first Italian championship in thirty-three years.

The 24-year-old, who as a youngster made ends meet by selling newspapers and water bottles on the busy streets of Lagos, was not without sadness, though, despite his achievements.

The events of March 29, 2022, at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja, the capital of Nigeria, have plagued Osimhen for an extended period.

Earlier, Nigeria played the first of two matches to determine whether the Black Stars of Super Eagles will go to the 2022 World Cup in Ghana, a longstanding regional foe. The game ended in a 0-0 draw.

Anticipation remained high hoping the nation’s team were going to make make the most of their edge and earn a spot in the finals in Qatar as Nigerian supporters packed to the national stadium.
