Hosts Ivory Coast face a tough test against Senegal

AFCON 2023 has reached the last 16 stage of the competition. Defending champions Senegal have reached the knockout stage and are aiming for back-to-back titles.

The top two teams from each group stage qualified for the last 16 along with four teams with the best third-place finish in their groups.

From Group A, Equatorial Guinea, Nigeria and hosts Ivory Coast qualified for the knockout matches. Equatorial Guinea topped the group and the hosts qualified on the last day after finishing third.

Cape Verde topped Group B ahead of Egypt. Ghana were knocked out of the tournament.

Defending champions Senegal won all matches in Group C and qualified along with Cameroon and Guinea. Angola, Burkina Faso and Mauritania qualified from Group D. Algeria were eliminated from the tournament after finishing at the bottom of the group.

Mali and South Africa finished in first and second place in Group E. Namibia were third in their group. From Group F, Morocco and DR Congo made it through to the next round.
