Why Liverpool’s Curtis Jones is eligible to play in AFCON 2023

Curtis Jones has represented the England U21 side
The possibility that Curtis Jones, a star player for Liverpool, may participate in the Africa Cup of Nations presents a challenge for manager Jurgen Klopp.
AFCON takes place annually every two years throughout the colder periods of January and February.
Because of their commitments abroad, Liverpool has suffered the loss of stars like Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah over the course of time.
Even if Mane is not anymore a member of Liverpool, the absence of Salah may prevent them from winning the Premier League this year. According to recent reports, Klopp may have to deal with yet another difficulty down the road.
Nigerian midfielder Jones, who has been playing some excellent football this season, continues to be eligible to participate.
Thanks to his grandma, the 22-year-old is eligible to play for the Super Eagles. Jones will not be participating in the current competition, although he may in subsequent ones.

Jones might still change his national team allegiance if he so chooses, given he has already played for England at the U21 level but has not yet played for the senior squad.
With EURO 2024 approaching, the Liverpool player will want to establish himself in the Three Lions’ starting lineup, but there has been no indication that he wishes to change allegiances.
Jones has received a lot of praise from Liverpool assistant boss Pep Lijnders for his efforts this season.
This Sunday afternoon, Liverpool are going back to Premier League action as they visit the Vitality Stadium to play Bournemouth.
