Kevin De Bruyne is now captain of Belgium’s national team

Kevin De Bruyne, a star player for Manchester City, has over 100 caps as the captain of Belgium, but he could have enjoyed participating in the AFCON.

The Manchester City midfielder’s mother, Anna De Bruyne, was born in Burundi, in East Africa, therefore her son would surely have qualified to represent his continent.

De Bruyne went on to represent his native Belgium, so all that’s left to do is imagine the renowned midfielder for Burundi weaving crosses to Saido Berahino.

De Bruyne would improve whatever team he played on and has put himself alongside some of the finest midfield players in existence. Despite not making it to the AFCON this year, Burundi might have been better off without de Bruyne on their team.

2019 saw Burundi’s first AFCON qualification. They very well could have qualified once more this year if de Bruyne had been selected to play for the African country rather than Belgium.

De Bruyne, who recently made his way back from injury, wants to help Manchester City win the Champions League and another Premier League championship.

His 2010 debut for Belgium eliminated any chance of him representing Burundi.

De Bruyne recently made his City debut back on the pitch following a protracted recuperation from a surgically treated hamstring issue.

During the FA Cup third-phase victory against Huddersfield, he marked his return with an assist. On Saturday, he might get an opportunity to start against Newcastle United.
