Mohamed Salah aims to lift the AFCON with Egypt
Mohamed Salah asserts his confidence in leading Egypt to victory in the Africa Cup of Nations “sooner or later”.
The Liverpool forward, who suffered a hamstring injury during Thursday’s 2-2 draw with Ghana, will miss his nation’s next two matches. To guarantee their spot in the group, the Pharaohs need to defeat Cape Verde in their last group match on Monday.
“I would love to win it, absolutely. It will happen somehow, that is what I believe. Whatever I believe I achieve, so sooner or later it will happen.” “I have won everything possible but this one not yet,” Salah said.
“Everybody knows what it means to any player to win an Africa Cup,” he said.
Salah has had a stellar career with Liverpool, winning both the Premier League and the Champions League.
The forward’s only national experience to date has been heartbreak, as he lost to Senegal in the previous tournament in Cameroon two years ago and to Cameroon in the 2017 final in Gabon.
2011 saw Salah make an appearance for Egypt, the year following their record-tying seventh Cup of Nations victory. In their opening encounter, Rui Vitoria’s team required Salah’s injury-time penalty to draw 2-2 with Mozambique. After Salah left the game injured, the team managed to fight back twice to hold Ghana.

Egypt will move on to a last-16 match in San Pedro on January 28 if they defeat Cape Verde, who recently clinched first place in Group B.
If Egypt advances that far, Salah is only anticipated to play in a quarterfinal on February 2 or 3. He is currently declared out of that match as well.
“My injury is still there but the most important thing now is to speak about the game,” Salah said.
“At the end of the day we are not doing great at the moment but we have a fantastic team and a great coach, so we just need to stay focused.
“I believe that with hard work everything is possible, so we just need to win one game to qualify and we go from there. We are very positive, we have great players and a great team, and we just need to fight and see what will happen.”
