Punjab FC secured their third win in ISL after beating hosts Kerala Blasters

In an exhilarating match at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Monday, Punjab FC decisively defeated Kerala Blasters FC with a 3-1 scoreline, securing their third victory of the Indian Super League 2023-24 season. 

The opening goal of the game was netted by Milos Drincic of Kerala Blasters FC in the 39th minute, granting Kerala an early lead. However, Punjab FC responded emphatically, with Wilmar Jordan Gil scoring two consecutive goals in the 42nd and 61st minutes. The match concluded with Luka Majcen securing the third goal for Punjab FC in the 88th minute via a penalty kick.

A brief look at the points table 

Odisha FC remain at the top spot with 31 points from 15 games. They are closely followed by FC Goa who added one more point to their tally and now have 28 points from 12 matches. 

Kerala Blasters are currently positioned third with 26 points, even after their recent loss to Punjab FC. Mohun Bagan have taken the fourth spot after their recent win with 23 points from 12 matches.

Mumbai City FC is at the fifth position, while NorthEast United find themselves back in the top-six.

Bengaluru FC hold seventh spot after their draw against Jamshedpur FC, while the latter remain at the eighth position in the ISL points table. 

Punjab FC have moved two places upward and are now at the ninth place with 14 points from 14 matches. East Bengal FC comes down to the tenth spot and Chennaiyin FC to the eleventh place after Punjab’s recent win. 

Hyderabad FC remain as the bottom-placed club with just four points from 14 matches.

1. Rafael Schuler Crivellaro (Chennaiyin FC) – 5 assists

2. Sahal Abdul Samad (Mohun Bagan) – 4 Assists

3. Adrian Nicolas Luna (Kerala Blasters) – 4 assists

4. Madih Talal (Punjab FC) – 4 assists

5. Amey Ranawade (Odisha FC) – 4 assists
