New entrants Punjab FC stunned former champions Bengaluru FC.
The Indian Super League (ISL) returned to action after a month’s hiatus due to India’s participation at the 2023 AFC Asian Cup. The league resumed proceedings with Jamshedpur FC and NorthEast United playing out a 1-1 draw at the JRD Tata Complex in Jamshedpur.
This gameweek produced a lot of eye-catching moments and also had this season’s first Kolkata derby. It was a week full of goals as 20 goals were scored across six games. On that note, let us take a look at the talking points from the week gone by.
3. Debutants Punjab FC shock Bengaluru FC

Punjab FC have started the second phase of the league on the right note. The ISL’s latest entrants conceded an early goal as Sunil Chhetri found the back of the net before Jordan Gil scored the equalizer in the 23rd minute and initiated a comeback to remember for his side.
Punjab FC’s skipper Luka Majcen scored the second goal in the 71st minute before Madih Talal wrapped up the game with a third goal in the 77th minute. And as a result, Punjab FC clinched their first ever win over Bengaluru FC.
2. Jamshedpur FC script a second half comeback over Mumbai City FC

Mumbai City FC took the field against a new look Jamshedpur FC at the Mumbai Football Arena during a cool evening in City of Dreams. The Islanders got off to a brilliant start as they opened the scoring with an early goal from Tiri followed by a 32nd minute strike by Alberto Noguera. However, their happiness and lead did not last too long as Khalid Jamil’s half time team talk changed the game.
Jamil inspired Jamshedpur FC to a second half comeback win over the defending league shield winners in the last match of Gameweek 13. Imran Khan’s equalizer coupled with Jérémy Manzorro’s brace helped the Red Miners get their third win of the campaign.
1. East Bengal get their first point against Mohun Bagan in the ISL

The 2023-24 ISL season’s first Kolkata Derby unfolded in a four goal thriller at the Salt Lake Stadium. East Bengal striked first with an early goal from Ajay Chhetri before Armando Sadiku equalized for the Mariners. Cleiton Silva again put his side in the front with a penalty, before Dimitri Petratos spoiled the party with a late equalizer.
Ever since their debut in the ISL, Mohun Bagan had won each one of the six Kolkata Derbies while East Bengal failed to get even a single point. The Red and Gold Brigade changed the tide with their first point over Mohun Bagan in the top flight.
