Dimitrios Diamantakos, Mirshad Michu headline ISL 2023-24 Team of GW 16
The past week’s action was full of notable individual performances.
Indian Super League 2023-24 season is approaching its business end. With the race for the playoffs becoming intense, the players are delivering mind-blowing performances for their respective teams to give them a fighting chance to attain seasonal objectives.
During the recent round of matches in the Indian Super League, Indian players stayed toe to toe with the foreigners and often played a key part in helping their team’s cause. Their resilience, determination and drive coupled with the quality of the foreigners led to some fabulous matches in the past week.
As the dust settles on another entertaining Indian Super League (ISL) round of fixtures, here is a look at Khel Now’s Team of the Week for the 16th game week of the 2023-24 season:
GK – Mirshad Michu (NorthEast United)
Mirshad Michu was excellent for NorthEast United in their memorable 2-0 win against title contenders FC Goa away from home. The custodian made four saves and made four punches, showing a good reading of the game and taking command of the penalty box.
RB – Rahul Bheke (Mumbai City FC)
Rahul Bheke showed resilience in Mumbai City FC’s defence as his side secured a comfortable 2-0 win over Chennaiyin FC. The skipper made five clearances and had 69 touches of the ball to help the Islanders keep a well-earned clean sheet.
CB – Asheer Akhtar (NorthEast United)
Asheer Akhtar has been a consistent performer for NorthEast United in the 2023-24 season and delivered another impressive performance. The centre-back made five clearances, blocked two shots and made an interception to keep the Gaurs silent, helping his side to a 2-0 win.
CB – Subhasish Bose (Mohun Bagan)
Subhasish Bose registered a professional performance for Mohun Bagan in their 0-0 draw with an in-form Odisha FC. The defender made four clearances and five tackles, dominating the opposition players with his physicality and reading of the game.
LB – Akash Mishra (Mumbai City FC)
Akash Mishra was one of the best performers for Mumbai City FC in their 2-0 win over Chennaiyin FC. He made two clearances in defence and delivered three crosses in attack, working hard for the team in both departments.
CM – Jeremy Manzorro (Jamshedpur FC)
Jeremy Manzorro played a vital role once again in helping Jamshedpur FC secure a win in the past week of the ISL. The midfielder scored the winning goal with a sublime free-kick deep into injury time to help the Men of Steel to a 2-1 win over East Bengal FC.
RW – Bipin Singh (Mumbai City FC)
Bipin Singh came off the bench to hand Mumbai City FC a 2-0 win over Chennaiyin FC with a sensational brace. The winger scored both goals with impressive strikes and repaid his manager’s faith by going above and beyond the call of duty.
LW – Daisuke Sakai (Kerala Blasters FC)
Daisuke Sakai’s opening goal, from a direct free kick, in the second half for the Kerala Blasters FC against FC Goa kickstarted a brilliant comeback which saw the side secure a 4-2 win after trailing by two following a dismal first half. The winger kept working hard after the goal and created several chances for his team, enabling the team to achieve an unforgettable victory.
CAM – Javi Hernandez (Bengaluru FC)
Javi Hernandez scored his fourth goal of the season to help Bengaluru FC grind out a 2-1 win over bottom dwellers Hyderabad FC. The Blues were handed the lead thanks to the Spaniard’s powerful left-footed strike from a tight angle. That moment could be the turning point for the side in the ongoing season.
ST – Sivasakthi Narayanan (Bengaluru FC)
When it looked like Bengaluru FC was heading towards another disappointing result, Sivasakthi Narayanan turned up with a late goal resulting in a 2-1 win for the side against Hyderabad FC. He took on two defenders single-handedly and unleashed an unstoppable left-footed strike that went straight into the bottom left corner from outside the box.
ST – Dimitrios Diamantakos (Kerala Blasters FC)
Dimitrios Diamantakos scored a fabulous brace for Kerala Blasters FC in their iconic 4-2 win over FC Goa. The striker has scored 10 times in the ongoing campaign after bagging two gorgeous goals that sent the home fans into a frenzy. The skipper was the driving force behind the Yellow Army clawing its way back into the game and winning it.
