Khalid Jamil claimed that he did not cast any magic on the team but that it was the players’ efforts.
Jamshedpur FC emerged victorious with a 2-1 scoreline in a dramatic encounter against East Bengal at the Furnace. The visitors were comfortably sailing towards victory with a one-goal advantage from Nandhakumar Sekar in the first half. The game was brought to life when Rei Tachikawa headed the equaliser past Prabhsukhan Gill, and then Jeremy Manzorro’s injury-time free-kick goal completed the comeback for the Men of Steel.
Khalid Jamil, happy with the performance, praised the players for their commitment till the very end, in the post-match media interaction. Here are the highlights from it.
Thoughts on the game
Khalid Jamil and his team were longing for a home victory after dropping points on previous two occasions despite being the better side on the pitch. The coach was delighted to finally find the joy in front of home fans and shared his thoughts on the much-awaited victory.
He asserted, “Everybody is happy to get three points at home. We deserved three points today, I said it previously in our last two home games as well. We played the same but today Jeremy made the difference and turned the game.”
On the magic spell he casted
Jamshedpur FC have looked a different side under coach Khalid, and have registered some sensational comeback wins. The coach was asked what magic spell he casted on the players after going 1-0 down at the break.
The manager answered, “It was not my magic, the players played well. Rei was good, and so was Nikhil as in the previous game. Everybody worked hard as a team and that is something to appreciate.”
On the fans and refereeing
Jamshedpur FC were denied a penalty in the first half. The manager was asked about his take on that controversial call.
Khalid Jamil clarified, “I don’t think about what’s gone, what I feel is we should have scored in the first twenty minutes to give ourselves an advantage in the game.”
The tactician concluded with a heartfelt appreciation for the fans. He recalled an instance from the match and said, “The fans were shouting out Jeremy’s name before the free-kick. The encouragement from the fans helped the team to win.”
