A new record was created for East Bengal in this ISL clash.
Odisha FC continue to dominate the ISL with their impressive performances and are now three points clear at the top of the table. The Juggernauts have put a dent on East Bengal’s pursuit for the top-six with a comeback win at home and have also settled scores for the Super Cup final defeat.
East Bengal made an electric start to the game as PV Vishnu scored the fastest goal of the ISL season with just 32 seconds on the clock. Vishnu went on all on his own and skipped past the defenders as if they weren’t there and pulled out a left-footed shot to give his side an early lead.
Odisha FC responded with attempts from Roy Krishna and Diego Mauricio before Amey Ranawade brought out a save from Prabhsukhan Gill. Carlos Delgado also came close to scoring an equalizer, but missed the target just before the drinks break.
Things got heated up after the drinks break as Diego Mauricio won a penalty and converted it to perfection to bring his side back on level terms. Roy Krishna also found the back of the net following a rebound, but was flagged offside.
The Red and Gold Brigade came out in the second half and created a couple of chances but couldn’t finish them off. East Bengal really put Odisha FC under pressure, but the Juggernauts were too good to handle. Finally in the 61st minute, Ahmed Jahouh set up Princeton Rebello from the corner and the latter netted the ball home past the keeper to put his side in the lead.
East Bengal kept on pushing for an equalizer with Naorem Mahesh Singh, Nandhakumar Sekar and Cleiton Silva creating chances and piling up the pressure on the home side. The away side made a lot of attempts to salvage an equalizer, but failed to navigate past the Odisha FC backline.
