Which African nation gained the most FIFA rankings after AFCON 2023?

AFCON 2023 winners Ivory Coast moved up in the latest FIFA rankings

The Africa Cup of Nations 2023 came to an end with hosts Ivory Coast clinching their third title. FIFA has also released the latest ranking and some of the African nations have gained spots.

Nigeria may have failed to win the competition but they are the highest movers in the rankings. The Super Eagles were 42nd and are now 28th in the latest rankings released by FIFA.

The winners of the competition moved up by 10 places and are now the 39th best team in the world. South Africa finished third in the competition. The Bafana Bafana moved eight places up and are 58th in the rankings.

Morocco are 12th and still remains the highest-ranked team in Africa, despite exiting the competition in the Round of 16.

Defending champions Senegal also made a Round of 16 exit from AFCON 2023. They moved three places up to 17 and are the second-best team in the African nation.

Egypt‘s exit in the final 16 saw them dropping three places to 36 in the world rankings. Tunisia also dropped from 54th to 41st. They failed to make it to the knockout stage.

Algeria also made a group-stage exit and dropped 13 places. They are now 43rd in the FIFA rankings.

Mali reached the quarter-final stage and moved four places up in the ranking. They are 47th in the world. Cameroon’s last 16 exit saw them dropping five places to 51.

Angola are now 93rd in the rankings after moving up by 24 places. They are the biggest climbers in the latest world rankings.

Other African teams that saw notable improvements include Equatorial Guinea (79th, up 9), Cabo Verde (65th, up 8), and Namibia (107th, up 8).
