Chelsea defender Benoit Badiashile ruled out for a month with groin injury

Chelsea will welcome back Levi Colwill from injury

Benoit Badiashile’s groin injury against Aston Villa left him sidelined for a month, which caused a serious setback for Chelsea. After being substituted late in the 3-1 FA Cup victory at Villa Park last week, Badiashile will likely be sidelined for some time, according to scans.

The defender is expected to be unavailable for the Carabao Cup Final against Liverpool on February 25 after being ruled out of Monday’s visit to Crystal Palace. For Chelsea and Mauricio Pochettino, losing Badiashile is a serious blow as they try to capitalise on their win over Villa and establish some continuity.

At Villa Park, Badiashile paired Axel Disasi in central defence, and Chelsea’s defence appeared considerably more solid with Thiago Silva on the bench.

The 39-year-old Silva seems to be ageing, and Pochettino was hoping Badiashile and Disasi might begin to establish a reliable centre-back duo. Even if Chelsea lost Badiashile, Levi Colwill’s comeback will help them when they play Palace.

Colwill, another left-footed alternative who might partner Disasi, is back in the mix for the trip to Selhurst Park after missing four games due to a hamstring injury.

Due to a thigh injury, Trevoh Chalobah was unable to participate this season; however, he is back in training and getting closer to playing again.

When the club visits Crystal Palace on Monday night, it will be intriguing to observe how Pochettino sets up the defence since he is going to make plans without the France international for the time being future.

The Blues, who have lost both of their most recent league matches to Wolves and Liverpool while conceding eight goals, will be desperate for a win at Selhurst Park.
