Dan Ashworth wants Chelsea's chief scout as his first signing at Manchester United

Ashworth is close to becoming Manchester United’s Sporting director

When Dan Ashworth becomes Manchester United’s sporting director, he is anticipated to make his first acquisition from Chelsea, per a recent report.

The 52-year-old Ashworth is reportedly in contact with Man United and Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s Ineos, although he is now awaiting an official strategy, according to Mail Sport.

The team and Ashworth’s present employers, Newcastle United, must also agree on an incentive settlement. Ashworth is leaving Newcastle for a new challenge farther west, and he will be looking to bring in a new support staff to help him at Old Trafford.

According to The Sun, Man United is reportedly interested in analyst Kyle Macaulay, who joined Chelsea alongside Graham Potter and is still with the Blues despite being fired by Swansea and Brighton a year ago.

In 2022, Potter was succeeded by six staff members from Brighton Chelsea: Ben Roberts, goalie mentor, first-team coaches Billy Reid, Bjorn Hamberg, and Bruno Saltor, head of global talent and acquisitions Paul Winstanley, and recruiting analyst Macaulay.

Sam Williams, the technical director of Ipswich who is going to be charged with bringing up-and-coming talent to the Red Devils under Ratcliffe’s successor, is still a target for Man United, reported to The Sun.

The head coach of Newcastle, Eddie Howe, is worried that Ashworth’s insider knowledge of the club’s operations, finances, and summer goals has put them in danger.

It’s clear from Howe’s insinuations that he wants Ashworth gone as soon as possible. After years of functioning without a sporting director, Manchester United great Gary Neville referred to his old team as “naive.”
