Dani Alves has been told to pay €150,000 to the victim

Dani Alves was found guilty of sexual assault and was sentenced to four years and six months in prison. The erstwhile Barcelona and Brazil player was found guilty by a Spanish court of raping a woman in a bar in December 2002.

The 40-year-old was sentenced to four years and six months in prison and was also mandated to pay €150,000 to the victim. Alves has been in custody since his arrest in January 2023. The ruling of the court is appealable.

Upon his arrest in January of last year, he was detained in detention at Brian 2 Prison, which is located close to the Catalan city.

After addressing the witness stand on the final day of his three-day trial at Barcelona’s Audiencia Provincial court, Alves declared that he was not guilty on February 7.

He acknowledged that he had sex with his 23-year-old accuser in a lavatory at the upscale Barcelona club Sutton on December 30, 2022, but he argued that it was consensual.

When she spoke in court beneath a curtain, the lady he was found convicted of raping acknowledged that Alves had pushed himself on her.

A companion who had been with her that night of the rape started crying as she remembered the victim ‘crying uncontrollably’ when she left the little toilet where she was being held captive.

In the event that Alves was found guilty, state prosecutors had requested a nine-year prison sentence; however, a private prosecutor representing the victim had requested a twelve-year penalty throughout the trial.

With 41 trophies won with Barcelona, PSG, and Juventus during his playing career, Alves was regarded by many as one of the top right-backs in the world at the highest point of his playing days.
