Lisandro Martinez could miss two months of action with knee injury for Manchester United

The Argentine already missed the first half of the season with an injury
Despite not requiring surgery Manchester United‘s Lisandro Martinez may miss up to two months due to an injury he suffered against West Ham, according to reports.
Lisandro Martinez, the Argentina defender, had an injury in January that kept him out of action for over three months. On Sunday, he was hurt again in the second half of a match against West Ham. He tried to continue playing, but Raphael Varane eventually replaced the centre-back.
The World Cup champion reportedly sustained a strained collateral ligament, according to sources from Argentina. It has been claimed that such an injury takes one and a half to two months to heal, meaning the former Ajax player could return to action during the current campaign.
In Martinez’s absence, United will still have access to Varane and the lately reinstated Harry Maguire. Speaking following Sunday’s victory, manager Erik ten Hag had hinted that the injury was serious. Now, the Red Devils will be anticipating that his absence is on the less severe side of estimates.

Martinez won’t need surgery, according to the Argentine publication TyC Sports, which is described as positive news for the defender. After a challenge with West Ham defender Vladimir Coufal, the 26-year-old tumbled down, and Ten Hag’s initial reaction wasn’t encouraging.
“Lisandro Martinez’s injury does not look good,” United’s manager said. “It is very bad for him. We wish Licha all the best. It’s very bad also for the team. It seems bad. We have to wait and make the right diagnosis. At this moment, we are very sad.
“Hopefully, it is not too bad, but we can only pray. It looks like he has to sit some games out injured again. I can’t tell you the details. We have to find out in the next few days what the diagnosis is. He is just returning. He is very important to us. He brings spirit to the team, aside from his football ability.”
