Manchester United approach former Liverpool director Julian Ward for recruitment role

Dan Ashworth wants Julian Ward to be part of his recruitment team
In negotiations with Julian Ward to become Manchester United’s head of recruitment, Sir Dave Brailsford has taken the lead. On Tuesday night, Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s agreement to purchase about 27% of the team was finalised, making him the formal co-owner of the organisation.
Brailsford and Jean-Claude Blanc, who were named to United’s board by the 71-year-old, are in charge of appointing members of the new committee.
In preparation for his relocation to Old Trafford, Dan Ashworeth has been placed on gardening leave, and Omar Berrada is willing to become the club’s new CEO.
However, the club wants someone who will work exclusively on hiring and report to Ashworth.
In 2022, Ward took over as Liverpool’s sporting director from Michael Edwards, but he abruptly resigned a few months later, shocking manager Jurgen Klopp.

Throughout his ten years at Anfield, Ward had a significant impact, assisting Edwards in signing players like Mohamed Salah, Alisson, Virgil van Dijk, and Sadio Mane.
Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez were wanted candidates for Manchester United, and he was directly in charge of their signings.
Ward is eager to get back to work after being unemployed for the past 18 months, and the Athletic report that he has spoken with Brailsford about a recruiting position.
United hasn’t made a final decision on the setup’s structure yet. After Ashworth leaves, that will become more evident, and INEOS wants there to be distinct responsibilities for each person.
We have to ensure that the right people end up in the right positions,’ said Ratcliffe.
‘Every person in management must be world class. And then it is important to create a positive, supportive, friendly and high-quality environment. That culture was missing before.
‘Only in such an environment can you get the best out of sportsmen. If successful, the results will follow automatically. That’s the plan and I believe in it.’
