Luke Shaw is working hard to be fit for Sunday’s meeting with Luton Town, says Erik ten Hag
Manchester United have won all four games since Shaw returned from a month-long injury absence last month, but the England international did not emerge for the second half of our victory over Aston Villa at the weekend, with Victor Lindelof playing on the left-hand side of the back four instead.
Ten Hag later said that decision was precautionary, based on the injuries Luke has suffered this season.
The Reds earned a priceless three points at Villa Park by virtue of Scott McTominay’s late header and, although he must be seen as a doubt at this stage, Erik is hopeful that Shaw can return at Kenilworth Road to help us extend our recent good form in the Premier League.
“Yes, so he is doubtful for the weekend but we are positive he can make it,” Ten Hag told reporters when asked about Shaw’s condition.
“So, he fell out [of the game], it was a precaution [to substitute him] and I think it was the right decision, especially when you, afterwards, win the game.
“But we are working to Sunday.”

Lindelof and Diogo Dalot would be options to replace Shaw if he does not make it in time but another full-back, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, has sadly suffered a setback in his bid to return from a spell on the sidelines.
The right-back last featured in January’s 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur but will now be out for another few weeks after picking up a new issue at Carrington.
Tyrell Malacia and Mason Mount are still ‘some more weeks’ away from completing their rehabilitations, while Anthony Martial and Lisandro Martinez are recovering from groin and knee complaints respectively.
“First, Aaron Wan-Bissaka will take some weeks because he picked up another injury in the training last week,” Erik added.
“Mason Mount and Tyrell Malacia will take some more weeks.”
Luton manager Rob Edwards will hold his press conference on Friday, but the Hatters will definitely be without Mads Andersen, Tom Lockyer and Marvelous Nakamba.
United ran out 1-0 winners in the reverse fixture back in November, with Lindelof scoring the only goal on the hour mark.
