A major positive for Liverpool comes ahead of their Premier League match against Brentford: Mohamed Salah is primed to play again.

While abroad at the Africa Cup of Nations on international duty, the famous Egyptian took an unfortunate blow. After being put on the back burner, he went back to England for medication, only to have his muscular issue shown to be more serious than initially thought.

Salah last played for Liverpool on New Year’s Day, when he scored twice in a 4-2 victory over Newcastle. This week, he resumed to the practice pitch and may get more playing time when the team travels to Brentford. According to Reds manager Jurgen Klopp:

“Mo is back in full training. That brings him automatically into contention.”

When giving a comprehensive squad update ahead of a match against the Bees, Klopp said, “Ibou [Ibrahima Konate] is not suspended any more, Joey [Gomez] is fit again, Conor [Bradley] is back, Ali [Alisson] is back, so that’s all positive.” Salah is not the only senior star back at his disposal.

With Trent Alexander-Arnold once again out, Klopp continued, listing the others who are ruled out:

“Thiago [Alcantara], no. And Trent, no. I wasn’t really aware of it but I caught some of the news there was a discussion we might have forced Trent back, he has had setbacks and nobody wants that. As long as I’ve been here we’ve never forced anyone back. But we work in a high performance area. ”

”We always try to catch them at the earliest moment, unfortunately when we catch that early nobody speaks about that. The last decision is always by the player. When the boys played they were fit, but the situation told us differently as it happened again. Very, very unlucky and unfortunate.”

Liverpool leads the Premier League table going into the most recent round of games. With a game remaining, they are only two points ahead of the reigning champions Manchester City, thus Salah’s return will be greatly welcomed as they try to gain momentum.
