Napoli consider sacking manager Walter Mazzarri before UCL clash against Barcelona
Walter Mazzarri replaced Rudi Garcia at Napoli
Walter Mazzarri may be fired from Napoli before the team’s Champions League match against Barcelona on Wednesday. Following Rudi Garcia’s departure in November, Walter Mazzarri took over as Napoli’s manager and won just five of the team’s 16 games in all competitions.
The defending Serie A champions held Genoa to a 1-1 draw on Saturday thanks to a late goal. Journalist Matteo Moretto now claims that the team is “seriously considering” firing Mazzarri, adding the Italian coach’s departure may occur prior to they play Barcelona on Wednesday in the opening leg of their phase of 16 Champions League match.
The journalist goes on to say that The Blues have already made contact with Francesco Calzona, the coach of Slovakia’s national team, who is expected to take over for the Italian manager. Then, Calzona, who had previously assisted Luciano Spalletti and Maurizio Sarri at Napoli, would look after both The Falcons and the Italian team concurrently.

After parting ties with AS Roma last month, Jose Mourinho was heavily linked to the Napoli position, yet the move did not happen. According to certain sources, the club president Aurelio De Laurentiis and the Portuguese coach were scheduled to meet to explore possible transfer negotiations.
When the team plays the Catalan giants in Europe, it’s unclear if Mazzarri will start on the bench. On February 25, the Blues will play Cagliari in the Serie A, after their matchup with the defending Spanish champions.
Napoli, who won the championship the previous season, is currently sitting in ninth place in the standings and has already suffered eight league defeats.
After the team’s most recent match, a 1-1 tie with Genoa, Mazzarri appears to be under further pressure.
Although the outcome is yet unknown, it’s definitely something to watch out for before a crucial game for both sides.
