The Dutchman has is said to be open to leaving Barcelona
Amid a rumoured €60 million approach from Tottenham for the midfield player, Barcelona have handed Frenkie de Jong an ultimatum on his future.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona have given De Jong a deadline, requiring him to either accept the deal that has been offered to him—which has been on the table since November—or submit a counteroffer.
In response to that story, Jijantes says Tottenham have offered the midfield player a four-year contract at Camp Nou, with salaries equivalent to his present salary of €60 million (£51 million). It’s unclear if De Jong might be open to taking that action.
De Jong’s existing deal runs in 2026, and Barca would like to enter the next transfer window understanding that he will either stay or depart.
They are aware that this summer may be the only time they can get a sizable amount for the 26-year-old. Rival teams Chelsea, Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain are all considering joining Spurs. Barca wants €100 million (£85 million) for De Jong.
De Jong has made 23 appearances across all competitions and is still a vital member of Barcelona’s squad. His only absences have been due to injury or suspension. In addition, he has 54 appearances for the Netherlands.

This coming weekend, De Jong’s team will play away from home against Celta Vigo. Next week, they take on Napoli in the Champions League.
The most recent rumour regarding De Jong is Tottenham’s bid, which comes after reports that the Dutchman isn’t sure he wants to continue at the team.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Barca wants De Jong to either make them an offer or renew so they can market him in the summer.
Barcelona, however, won’t want to sell for a low price because they need to generate cash to aid with their current financial difficulties.
The Catalans are believed to demand at least €100 million in exchange for losing De Jong. The current value of the midfielder’s release clause is €400 million.
De Jong has served as an integral part of Xavi’s ambitions ever since his arrival over, but the Netherlands international could follow similarly now that the Spanish manager has announced he will leave the position at the end of the current campaign. This season, Barcelona’s number 21 has made 23 appearances and scored one goal.
