Liverpool‘s star defender and captain Virgil Van Dijk has completed 250 appearances for the club. He joined the Reds in 2018 from Southampton.

Van Dijk joined the club for £75 million, which was then a record fee for a defender. He was a former Celtic player and they received 10% of the profit.

The Dutch defender is one of the most decorated players in the history of the club. He is one of the best modern-day defenders in world football.

In the 250 appearances for the club, Virgil has won 173 games for the club. A win percentage of around 70% shows why this defender is so highly rated. Liverpool tends to struggle whenever Van Dijk is not present in the defence.

Virgil Van Dijk has won seven trophies during his time at Anfield. His first honour at the club was the UEFA Champions League title in the 2018-19 season. This was followed by UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup triumph in 2019.

The Dutchman added a Premier League title under his name and was a crucial part of the Liverpool squad that ended their long drought in the 2019-20 season.

FA Cup and EFL Cup triumph in the 2021-22 season was followed by an FA Community Shield triumph in 2022. The 32-year-old has been a true guardian of Liverpool’s defence.

During his time at Liverpool, the centre-back has scored 27 goals. Van Dijk’s tall figure has allowed him to dominate in the opposition’s defence.

Liverpool managed a 4-1 win against Brentford on Virgil’s 250th appearance. The Reds failed to keep a clean sheet but were happy to see Mohamed Salah on the field. He scored a goal and created one to mark his comeback for the Merseyside club.
