Virgil van Dijk scored the winning goal to give Liverpool their tenth League Cup

The reason Virgil van Dijk does not display his initials on the reverse side of his shirt like normal players is somewhat irritating to football fans.

According to his uncle Steven Fo Sieeuw, Van Dijk’s decision to wear ‘Virgil’ on the back was influenced by his long-standing conflict with his father, which dates back to when he was twelve.Virgil’s father separated from his mother and the other three children he had with her. According to Fo Sieeuw, The Sun, “his mother is the true hero of this story; his dad wasn’t around for so many important years.”

‘You don’t take your dad’s name off your shirt without a reason and Virgil has made it very clear how he feels.’

‘Ron [Van Dijk] is a nice guy but you need to be more than that to be a good father. You have to be there for your children. Ron married again and his new wife was very domineering, so he didn’t see his kids much.’

He says: ‘She had a full-time job and three kids to look after, so she never had a minute for herself. She spent every day going to work then coming home and looking after the kids and doing all the cooking. I feel for Virgil, it’s like he’s been caught in the middle.’

Even though his uncle was instrumental in Van Dijk’s upbringing, he maintains that his mother should receive all the recognition.

Van Dijk scored the game-winning goal in extra time of Sunday’s Carabao Cup final against Chelsea, adding yet another unforgettable moment to his legendary Liverpool career. In the 118th minute, the defender leapt high to head home from a corner and win the first title of manager Jurgen Klopp’s final season.
