Blues board wants to sell Sterling next summer
Raheem Sterling will depart the team in the summer if Chelsea were to sign Athletic Club forward Nico Williams, as reported by Express. After an extremely quiet January transfer window, the Blues are planning for the summer and wish to add excellent players to their roster.
When Todd Boehly and the Clearlake Group took control of Chelsea’s operations in 2022, Sterling was their first acquisition ahead of the 2022–2023 season. The former Manchester City player signed a contract worth almost £50 million, but he hasn’t performed well ever since.
Although it was never going to be a problem to spend £50 million on a world-class, Premier League-tested player, Raheem Sterling’s performances have raised concerns. The club might sell the England international in the summer, according to transfer expert Dean Jones. The Saudi Pro League reportedly contacted Chelsea last summer about moving the seasoned attacker, but the player had no interest in the offer. The Standard now claims that with 17 goals in 71 games, the team might be ready to let go of the attacker.

The Blues are thinking of replacing the former Manchester City player with Spain international Nico Williams. Europe holds the 21-year-old star of Athletic Club in the highest regard due to his impressive performances for the Basque team.Williams and his club agreed to a contract extension in December, although there is still a release option in his deal worth about £43 million. The English team has scouted the young player well, and they will be drawn to his modest release clause.
Nico Williams has made 27 appearances for his team this season, tallying six goals and 11 assists. This is a healthy comeback for the attacker. In the past, he has also been connected to Real Madrid and Barcelona.
