Erling Haaland has been linked with a move to Real Madrid

Erling Haaland has expressed his continued delight at Manchester City, but despite rumours that Real Madrid are interested, he is not now focused on negotiating a contract extension.

The Norwegian striker broke numerous scoring records when he joined the Citizens in July 2022 after leaving Borussia Dortmund. In just 84 games in all competitions, he has scored an incredible 80 goals.

Erling Haaland has scored 28 goals in 31 games this season. Most recently, he scored in City’s 3-1 Premier League victory against Manchester United on Sunday, capping off a five-goal performance in a 6-2 FA Cup victory over Luton Town the previous week.

Despite not having played two full seasons at Manchester City, the 23-year-old striker—who is considered to be among the best in the world of football—continues to be linked to a lucrative move to Real Madrid, the Spanish powerhouse that is rumoured to be looking to add an attacker this summer.

According to recent sources, the Citizens intend to keep Haaland at the Etihad beyond the summer of 2027, when his current contract is set to expire.

In an effort to improve their chances of holding onto their star striker, it has also been suggested that Man City is eager to extend the release option in Haaland’s current deal.

“I’m really happy, especially with the people that I’m surrounded by. The manager, the directors, the board are a group of amazing people and I’m really happy,” Haaland told reporters at a press conference on Tuesday ahead of Man City’s Champions League last-16 second-leg tie with Copenhagen.

“If I say this now, it is probably going to be a massive headline… tomorrow you never know what the future brings, but I’m happy and you can write this but you also have to write everything I said right before.

“My focus mainly now is on the pitch. There are a lot of games. Two days ago there was the Manchester derby, now it is the Champions League and then on Sunday against Liverpool. I think I should focus on that, I don’t think I should focus on anything else at the moment.”
