Prior to Liverpool’s Europa League match against Sparta Prague on Thursday, Mohamed Salah resumed training after suffering a hamstring injury. However, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has stated that the team wants to exercise caution with Salah.
With Salah’s come back the Premier League leaders have a timely lift heading to their round of 16 matchup with Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday and their first-leg match in Prague.
Salah sustained an injury while playing for Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations. This season, Salah has hit 19 goals for Liverpool across all competitions. Since scoring in a 4-1 victory at Brentford on February 17, when he came off the bench, he has not appeared in a game.
‘Mo (Salah) has travelled with us. He’s trained for two days and is full of energy, we have to see but it is so good he is back. He is so happy; it was an unlikely situation where he had so long out, played an incredible game versus Brentford and then was out, that is how it is. We want to be careful but this is a super intense period of the season.’

After joining up with Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations finals, the Egyptian has only made one appearance for the Reds since New Year’s Day. On January 18, he suffered a hamstring injury against Ghana. On February 17, Salah scored his first goal back against Brentford; however, a recurrence of his prior hamstring issue has kept Salah out of the Reds’ subsequent four games.
According to Klopp, he has no say over whether Egypt’s star, Mohamed Salah, will play a friendly against New Zealand with his country’s squad during the international break ahead this month.
Dominik Szoboszlai is also expected to be ready after missing more than a month due to a hamstring injury. He completed his first league minutes this past weekend.
