Earlier French league went by the name of Ligue 1 Uber Eats

Beginning with the 2024–2025 season, the French Championship will go by a new name, Ligue 1 McDonald’s, replacing Ligue 1 Uber Eats.

The report claims that McDonald’s will pay 20 million euros annually for the right to name the French championship. Right now, Uber pays €5 million less. Due to Lionel Messi’s transfer and the potential departure of Kylian Mbappe, the league’s top player, for Real Madrid, the corporation has lowered its budget for the upcoming season. After the parties settle all economic and formal disputes, the French league will announce its new name.

French league’s next primary sponsor would be McDonald’s. Following fruitless negotiations with the massive American company Uber, which would have provided less than the original 15 million euros annual deal that united the two parties, McDonald’s, with a 20 million euros annual deal, would have taken the lead in the market:

”All commercial negotiations in football in France only revolve around PSG. I’m sorry, but it’s the truth. Uber Eats wanted to continue, but giving much less in terms of audiences on Prime Video. Especially since there weren’t many people for this naming. ”

”And Vincent Labrune saw a file arrive on his desk from the top with a tidy sum. It’s McDonald’s, but who doesn’t want that to be known at the moment, because they haven’t yet planned the communication. They are working on it.”

“In all the meetings we only talk about PSG with the departure of Neymar Jr then Messi now Mbappé who could also leave at the end of the season, so we can’t give that much. ”

They had access to Amazon Prime data and saw that the most a Ligue 1 match could attract on a Sunday evening is 1 million viewers.” This is what would have pushed the American company to review the contract.”
