AFC Asian Cup 2027 final draw postponed amid Middle East crisis

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has today confirmed that the AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027 final Draw, which was scheduled to take place on April 11, 2026, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, has been postponed.
The decision was taken after careful consideration to ensure the uninterrupted attendance of all stakeholders at the final draw ceremony.
The final draw, which will be maintained in a safe place to happen in the next round. This will be scheduled to be held from January 7 to February 5, 2027, in the three cities in Saudi Arabia.
The AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027 will provide the backdrop for both the eagerly anticipated final as well as the opening match featuring hosts and three-time Asian champions Saudi Arabia.
Middle East crisis and final draw

The AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027 final draw has been postponed due to the current situation in the Middle East.
It must be noted that the reason is currently in the midst of a conflict involving Iran on one side and the US and Israel on the other. However, more pertinent to the story is the fact that regional states such as Saudi Arabia, Qatar, UAE have also suffered collateral damage in the conflict, which began on February 28, 2026.
The AFC Asian Cup 2027 involves participation from several nations, but the current global situation has impacted travel plans for the final draw in Saudi Arabia.
Ongoing regional tensions have led to stricter travel guidelines and flight disruptions, affecting teams’ ability and willingness to attend the event in person.
The AFC expressed its appreciation to the Local Organising Committee for the AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027 for their full readiness to host the draw as planned, and it appreciates the understanding and continued cooperation of its Participating Member Associations, fans and stakeholders.
The Indian senior men’s national team will not be able to participate in the AFC Asian Cup 2027 under Khalid Jamil.
They will play their last match against Hong Kong on March 31, 2026. After the draw has been postponed, all eyes are now on the further updates regarding the final draw and when it will happen.
