AIFF ratifies move to restrict I-League 2nd Division clubs to three foreigners in positive step
The new season of the second tier is set to feature 20 teams with eight of those being development sides from ISL clubs.
Mr. Subrata Datta chaired AIFF’s League Committee Meeting at the AIFF Headquarters, the Football House in Dwarka on Friday (October 20, 2017). Representatives from all participating I-League Clubs, FSDL and Star Sports attended the meeting as invitees.
The Committee ratified the format of the 2nd division League which would be competed among 20 teams including 12 teams from various states and the 8 reserve teams from clubs playing in the Hero Indian Super League.

As approved by the AIFF Executive Committee, the Committee was apprised about a decrease in the number of foreigners to be playing in the 2nd Division League. As per the regulations of the upcoming edition, clubs can register 3 foreigners including one player from Asian quota, out of which two can play on the field at any given time.
