Ilenikhena’s brace secured a solid win for the hosts.

Al Ittihad hosted Al Nassr at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Jeddah in a Matchday 5 fixture of the Saudi Pro League 2026-27 season on Saturday, September 5, 2026. Two first-half goals from George Ilenikhena secured a 2-1 victory for the Tigers.

After a fast start by the visitors, it was Al Ittihad who got an early breakthrough in just the fourth minute. A fine cross from the right was hit hard and firmly by Steven Bergwijn. The shot rattled off the crossbar and fell kindly to George Ilenikhena, who found the back of the net.

Ilenikhena then doubled the hosts’ lead in the 22nd minute, showing incredible athleticism to poke Houssem Aouar’s cross into the back of the net. Angelo Gabriel pulled one back for the visitors in the 36th minute, reducing the deficit to one goal.

The visitors came back fighting in the second half. However, some solid defending and several good saves from Predrag Rajkovic secured a solid victory for the hosts. The result condemned Al Nassr to their first league defeat of the season.

Important things we learned from Al Ittihad vs Al Nassr:

Catch Every Update, Anytime, Anywhere

1. Ilenikhena capitalises on start

George Ilenikhena was on the bench for both of Al Ittihad’s last two matches against Al Hazem and Al Fateh. The French-Nigerian striker got the nod to start this match ahead of Youssef En-Nesyri and made the most of this opportunity. His fierce strike to find the back of the net in the fourth minute provided the perfect start for the hosts. Ilenikhena’s second goal was even better, with the striker leaping into the air to get a toe to a cross and divert it goalwards.

2. Al Nassr’s lethargic defending causes problems

Most of the early problems caused by the hosts came from crosses into the box, especially from the right flank. Other than Nawaf Boushal, the rest of the Al Nassr defenders were too slow to come out and attack the crosses head-on, allowing the attackers to take their time and pick their slots, causing numerous problems for Nawaf Al-Aqidi.

3. Visitors concede early again

Tonight’s match was the third successive match in which Al Nassr conceded the opening goal. In both cases – against Al Ettifaq and Al Taawoun – Ange Postecoglou’s side fought back to secure victory. The Global Ones, however, could not muster any such comeback tonight, with their defensive frailties proving to be their undoing.

4. Injury blow for Mukhtar Ali

Mukhtar Ali, the influential Al Ittihad midfielder, pulled up just before half-time. The Saudi international seemed to be in pain just after a challenge on Angelo Gabriel, and he went down clutching his thigh. He looked to be in significant pain and was eventually brought off by Jens Wissing. Richard Rios, who joined on loan from Benfica in September, was his replacement.

5. Cristiano Ronaldo draws a blank

Cristiano Ronaldo had scored twice in the Saudi Pro League already, but the Portuguese veteran had no such joy tonight. In fact, he had just two shots all night, both of which were off target. Ronaldo’s woes in front of goal summed up Al Nassr’s night, as their famed attackers simply failed to turn up.
