The Reds will host City this weekend.
Liverpool head coach Andoni Iraola has confirmed that Alexander Isak and Cody Gakpo are “both injured” and are significant doubts for the Premier League game against Manchester City this weekend.
The Merseyside club’s players have returned from international duty and are set to face City in a Premier League Matchday 6 fixture on Sunday afternoon at Anfield.
City enter the game as the league leaders, having won all five of their games, while the home side’s task has been made more difficult by injuries.

Isak suffered a thigh injury while on international duty with Sweden, and Gakpo had to withdraw from the Netherlands camp after suffering an ankle injury in a challenge against Serbia. The two forwards are vital for their club, and Iraola did nothing to comfort supporters ahead of their return to club play.
“I think Alex Isak and Cody Gakpo both have had to leave the national teams with injuries,” he said. “Now it’s a matter of if they are going to recover in time to help us in the next game or not. But right now they are both injured.”
Isak suffered an injury while playing for Sweden against Romania on September 25. When his manager, Graham Potter, described the situation, he didn’t sound very concerned.
Gakpo, meanwhile, had to be replaced after a hard challenge from Serbian player Sasa Lukic. He has two goals and four assists in six matches for the Reds this campaign and would be a significant loss for Iraola.
The Reds will host Manchester City on Sunday, hoping to capitalise on their opponents’ uncertainties following their guilty verdict by the Premier League. Iraola understands the magnitude of the challenge they face against Enzo Maresca’s side.
