"Praful Patel and his biryani boys...," Twitter slams AIFF after FIFA ban
The suspension has sent shockwaves amongst the football community in the country.
The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has been suspended by FIFA due to undue interference from third parties. It is a serious violation of the FIFA Statutes and the apex body has come down hard on Indian football. This news comes as a huge setback for all stakeholders of football in India.
A ban was looming large for the past few months amidst the whole controversy surrounding the AIFF executive committee and the formulation of a new constitution. The Supreme Court of India intervened since the AIFF had not appointed a new president in 13 years. It disbanded the AIFF and asked the Committee of Administrators (CoA) to govern the sport and formulate a new constitution in line with the Sports Code.

The Suspension
However, the draft constitution could not be implemented in time due to conflicts between the stakeholders such as the clubs and the state associations. An advisory council was set up to aid in formulating the draft constitution and that goes against FIFA’s Statutes.
This is the third-party interference and influence of the same led to the suspension. One of the negative outcomes of the suspension is that India will not be able to host the upcoming 2022 FIFA Women’s U17 World Cup.
Eminent personalities and people who work in and around football in the country took to Twitter to express their opinions about this revelation. Former Indian national team skipper and legend Bhaichung Bhutia released a video statement, suggesting that it was unfortunate that FIFA decided to suspend AIFF until it falls in line with their code. He also believes that it is the right time to start afresh and make the system better.
More reaction on Twitter
Joe Morrison, who is a popular football show presenter, commentator and takes a keen interest in Indian football also took to social media to express his disappointment.
Another user also expressed their disappointment for the loss of hosting rights for the U17 Women's World Cup.
If the ban stays in place and the transfer window closes, football clubs in India will not be able to register foreign players. They will have to rely on free agents signed outside the window.
