Anthony Gordon has one goal at the ongoing World Cup.

England suffered a heartbreaking 2-1 defeat at the hands of defending champions Argentina in the FIFA World Cup 2026 semi-final at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia, on July 15.

The first half was a cagey affair, with neither side producing any clear-cut chances. However, Gordon gave the Three Lions a shock lead just 10 minutes after the restart, converting a brilliant cross from the right by Morgan Rogers.

Gordon was one of his nation’s best players throughout the expanded 48-team World Cup in North America, chipping in with three assists in the previous five games. Wednesday’s strike marked his fourth international goal in 25 caps.

The Barcelona attacker’s goal put the Three Lions in control, and they continued to frustrate the Argentine attackers until the 85th minute. Unfortunately for the European side, La Albiceleste clinched the win, courtesy of late goals from Enzo Fernandez and Lautaro Martinez.

Gordon opened the scoring in the semi-final clash with a brilliant poacher’s goal. Lisandro Martinez’s clearance fell to Declan Rice, who found Morgan Rogers on the right flank. The latter then delivered an inch-perfect delivery towards the far post, which was met by Gordon, who got ahead of his marker before poking it into the back of the net past Emiliano Martinez.
