Belgium lost 2-0 to Spain in the quarterfinals at the Los Angeles Stadium.

Despite not getting the best start to their World Cup campaign, Belgium later gained their much-awaited form in the knockout stage. Belgian players failed to score in the first two games; the only goal came from an own goal by Egypt’s Mohamed Hany.

However, they eventually topped their group after beating New Zealand 5-1 and later secured a memorable 3-2 triumph over Senegal in the round of 32 to reach the pre-quarterfinals. Despite the controversial red card decision for Folarin Balogun, they secured a 4-1 win over the USA in the round of 16.

They scored 12 goals in their games before they faced Spain in the semifinals and eventually became the first team to net a goal against La Roja and Unai Simón in the ongoing edition of the World Cup.

They entered the crucial fixture without two key midfielders, Amadou Onana and Youri Tielemans, while Thibaut Courtois suffered an injury in the second half. Despite everything, Belgium put up a tough fight against Spain.

Yes. The Red Devils’ journey in the 2026 FIFA World Cup has come to an end following their defeat to 2010 champions Spain. Most likely, it was the last time the football world had Kevin de Bruyne, Romelu Lukaku, and Alex Witsel in an important international tournament.

Rudi Garcia, who led the Red Devils to an 18-match unbeaten streak across all competitions, has suffered only the second defeat in his stint as the Belgian manager. They will have to start again while eyeing another winning run, as the team is likely to go under a major revamp with experienced players leaving.

Meanwhile, Spain will lock horns against France in the first semifinal of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The game will be played on Tuesday, July 14, at the Dallas Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

How many teams have qualified for the FIFA World Cup 2026 semi-finals?

France became the first team to qualify for the World Cup semi-finals by beating Morocco. And now, Spain have joined them.
