Morocco lost 2-0 to France in the quarterfinals at the Boston Stadium.

Morocco gave a gritty display of their abilities at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. In their first match, they faced five-time champions Brazil and played to a 1-1 draw against Carlo Ancelotti’s side. Later, they defeated Scotland and Haiti to secure a spot in the knockout round.

The African heavyweights pulled a major upset when they defeated Ronald Koeman’s Netherlands on penalties to advance to the next round. Their fairytale run continued in the round of 16, where they locked horns against co-hosts Canada. However, Mohamed Ouahbi’s side secured another stellar triumph to reach the last 8.

In the quarterfinals, they had to replay the 2022 FIFA World Cup semifinal against France. They started firm with their defence, trying not to concede a goal. Yassine Bounou made four saves in the first half, including Kylian Mbappe’s penalty.

However, they failed to maintain the 0-0 scoreline in the second half and conceded two goals, scored by Kylian Mbappé (60′) and Ousmane Dembélé (66′). The game ended 2-0 in favour of Didier Deschamps’ France.

The short answer is yes. Morocco are out of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. In the quarterfinals, they were the only African team remaining in the competition; however, unlike in the last edition, they failed to reach the semifinals.

Nevertheless, they defeated the Netherlands and drew with Brazil. Their elimination from the tournament also ends their 34-match unbeaten streak.

On the other side, Les Bleus will wait one more day to find out their opponent in the FIFA World Cup semi-final. They will lock horns against the winner of the second quarterfinal between European champions Spain and Belgium.

La Roja have not conceded a single goal yet, and Unai Simon has created a World Cup record of not conceding a goal for the most consecutive minutes (609). On the other hand, Belgium’s round-of-32 win over Senegal has made them one of the fan favourites.
