Norway lost 2-1 to England in the quarterfinals at the Miami Stadium.

Norway got off to a great start in their World Cup campaign following their return to the tournament after 28 years. They returned to the global stage after almost three decades and played as if they had never left. In the first game, they secured a 4-1 win over Iraq, where Erling Haaland scored a brace.

They later defeated Senegal 3-2 to reach the knockout stage of the summer competition for the second time. Ståle Solbakken later made a shocking decision by resting his entire playing XI in the last group-stage game against France and fielding a completely rotated squad.

Despite going into the knockout round with a 4-1 loss against France, Landslaget secured a crucial 2-1 win over the Ivory Coast. However, their biggest win in history came last week, when they defeated five-time champions Brazil 2-1 in the pre-quarterfinals.

Going into the quarterfinal against England, Erling Haaland was on a streak of 14 consecutive games during which he had scored a goal for Norway. Meanwhile, the whole side’s confidence was high, as Andreas Schjelderup gave Landslaget the lead in the first half. But a brace from England’s Jude Bellingham cancelled Schjelderup’s effort.

Yes, Norway’s memorable journey at the 2026 FIFA World Cup has come to an end. In addition, Erling Haaland’s streak of 14 games in which he scored at least one goal has ended, as he failed to find the back of the net against the English defence.

However, the defeat does not define the Norwegian side’s performance. The 2026 FIFA World Cup will always remain a historic campaign for them.

Meanwhile, England will lock horns against either Argentina or Switzerland in the second semifinal of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The game will be played on Wednesday, July 15, at the Atlanta Stadium in Georgia.

How many teams have qualified for the FIFA World Cup 2026 semi-finals?
