Argentina vs Egypt - All-time head-to-head record ahead of FIFA World Cup 2026

They are coming after defeating Australia in penalties, and Mohamed Salah would be keen to take inspiration from their African counterparts, Cape Verde and pull a big upset against Argentina.

Argentina vs Egypt: Head-to-Head

The first time these two sides met was at the 1928 Olympics in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. FIFA World Cup was yet to be introduced, and the Olympics were the biggest footballing tournament.

La Albiceleste went on to win the Olympic semi-finals 6-0 against the Pharaohs. Domingo Tarasconi went on to score a hattrick and Manuel Ferreira scored a brace as Argentina stormed their way into the Olympics 1928 Finals, where Uruguay eventually defeated them and Italy defeated Egypt in bronze medal game.

The second game between these two sides was an international friendly fixture in 2008 at the Cairo International Stadium.

Hassan Shehata’s boys did a good job of holding Argentina to a goalless draw for a long time. However, Sergio Aguero broke the deadlock in the 65th minute, and another goal from Nicolás Burdisso in the 80th minute saw Argentina winning the game 2-0
