An unfortunate setback in his fitness could potentially disrupt his early Arsenal career. Luke Edwards of The Telegraph stated:
“Hearing Bruno Guimaraes has picked up an untimely injury at the start of his Arsenal career. Not sure how long he’s out for yet but told it could be a few weeks.”
Mikel Arteta’s fear comes in advance of tonight’s Premier League match between Arsenal and Coventry City. After leaving St. James’ Park after five years, Guimaraes had been acclimating to his new environment.
The 28-year-old was recruited to provide another quality option for Mikel Arteta’s midfield. Arsenal seek to capitalise on their triumphs and win back-to-back Premier League championships.
However, the Gunners may now have to do without one of their big summer signings throughout the first few weeks of the season.
Arsenal will hope the condition is not as bad as initially thought. The precise duration of Guimaraes’ likely absence has yet to be established.
Meanwhile, Mikel Arteta has already confirmed that Bruno Guimaraes is a doubt for today’s match against Coventry. However, Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka are set to play. Guimaraes, Arsenal’s new £75 million addition, made his FA Community Shield debut last Sunday in a 3-0 triumph over Manchester City.
In his pre-match news conference on Thursday, Arteta was asked about Guimaraes. He responded:
“Let’s see how he is. He’s evolving really well, but let’s see for tomorrow.”
