East Bengal FC return to the AFC Champions League Two

East Bengal FC have qualified for the AFC Champions League Two for the first time in 11 years. The last time the club qualified for the tournament, it was known as the ‘AFC Cup’.

East Bengal played Al-Arabi in their preliminary round, who they defeated 4-1 in an emphatic fashion. On 18th August, 2026, the draws for the AFC Champions League Two came out.

In the draw, East Bengal was placed in Pot 4 of the West Zone, and were drawn against 3 other teams in Group D. Those 3 teams being, Al-Hussein SC (Jordan), Al-Shorta SC(Iraq), Al-Seeb Club (Oman). After being drawn in to Group D, it was later revealed that the first match that The Torchbearers would play in their AFC Champions League Two campaign, would be against 3 time successive Champions of the Jordanian Pro League Al-Hussein SC.

Al-Hussein SC qualified for the competition after losing in their AFC Champions League Elite preliminary rounds. Al-Hussein also participated in the competition in the 2025-26 season, where they went all the way to the Quarter-Finals, only to lose 3-1 to Saudi Arabian team Al-Ahli.

East Bengal FC and Al-Hussein are set to play each other on 16rh September, 2026, at the Amman International Stadium in Jordan at 9:30 PM IST.

Ahmad Assaf

Ahmad is a Right Back who has played with Al-Hussein since the 2025-26 season. In his time with the club, he has won both the Jordanian Supercup and the Jordanian League. Ahmad has played over 70 games in his career and is yet to score in a professional football match.

Ahmad is a 27 year old Jordanian international who was born in Germany. He has played football professionally for the last 7 seasons. He started out in Germany playing in some of the lowest divisions of German football until 2025, when he played 7 matches in the 2nd Division of Luxembourg before making his move to his current club Al-Hussein. The Jordanian has already made his debut for the Jordan National Team, but was not picked in the squad to go to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Ahmad is most known for being a very balanced full back. He has the defensive ability to make a last minute slide tackle, to stop plays from happening and winning most duels that he faces, all while being the machine that creates key chances for his team on the right flank of the pitch. Offensively, Ahmad makes runs into space and sticks to the right side without moving much to the central areas of the pitch. He understands that him staying ahead would leave his team vulnerable defensively, which is why you will find him on the down the right flank for Al-Hussein.

Assaf’s ability to play balanced football is of utility to Al-Hussein, which will be very helpful to the attacks that the team make, while ensuring that the defense is not left unprotected.

Brayan Riascos

Brayan Riascos is a 31 year old Columbian Striker, who has played over 300 matches in his career, and has managed to score over 80 goals with 36 assists.

The Columbian is one of the newest signings for the Jordanian club, carrying experience from multiple different clubs in different countries. He played the initial phase of his career in the lower divisions of Portugal and Italy. He made his first move outside of Europe to Ukraine where he would spend the next 2 years of his career with Metalist Kharkiv, before moving back to Europe to play for Grasshopper Club Zurich in Switzerland. He then moved to the Saudi Pro League, and made the decision to leave after only 1 year, to go back to Ukraine. He would then become a journeyman spending less than a year at every club he played for.

Brayan is known to be a very versatile centre forward. Standing at 178 cm, he uses his agility and superior physicality to bully the opponent defenders. Brayan played as both a false 9 and target man for his previous team Al-Zawraa SC in Iraq. In only 23 matches, Brayan was able to score 11 goals. Brayan also has experience in Intercontinental club competitions, where he has played 6 matches and has managed to make 6 goal contributions with 4 goals and 2 assists.

Brayan can prove to be a challenge that East Bengal may not be prepared for, as he also drops deep in order to collect and hold the ball, before distributing it to any wide lying players that are able to make a run down the wings.

Pedro Henrique

Pedro Henrique is a 25 year old Brazilian player, who plays at Centre Back for the Jordanian team. Pedro has played football professionally for since the 2020-21 season.

He has spent the first 4 years of his career in the first and second division of Brazilian football. After playing with teams like Sport Club Internacional & Sport Club do Recife, he made his first permanent move outside of Brazil to the Bulgarian first division side Ludogorets Razgrad. After 4 years at the club, he made a move to his current team Al-Hussein prior to the start of the 2025-26 season. In his one season at the club, Pedro managed to win only the Jordanian League so far. Having played for the current Champions, he has become one of the best Centre Backs in the entire league.

Pedro plays a very ‘no nonsense’ style of football. His understanding of the plays of the opponent team is so thorough, that he is able to predict passes and make interceptions accordingly. He is very good at making last moment tackles that stop the chances of a goal. His recovery pace is something to be jealous of, as despite standing 188 cm tall, he is fast enough to keep up with some of the best forwards in the Jordanian League. Pedro has been a very important figure in the Al-Hussein team as his defensive abilities have fortified not only him, but also the club’s entire defense. He is also more than capable of distribution, as he has made many long passes towards players making a run into space.

Pedro has played over 130 matches in his career while finding the back of the net on 4 occasions and providing 1 assist. His ability to stop attacks from happening by making a tackle early into offensive plays by the opponent team could be of problem to East Bengal in their upcoming AFC Champions League Two clash.
