Bayern sealed a solid win over their Bundesliga rivals tonight.

Bayern Munich took on Bundesliga rivals RB Leipzig in a feisty pre-season friendly fixture at the Allianz Arena in Munich on Saturday, August 15, 2026. Goals from Luis Diaz and Nathaniel Brown sealed a 3-1 win for Die Roten.

After an early period of dominance from the visitors, Bayern took control of the match, and Luis Diaz found the back of the net in the 13th minute. The hosts continued to push hard for a second goal, but the Leipzig defence held firm to go one goal down at half-time.

Leipzig came back fighting in the second half, absolutely dominating the opening exchanges. Die Roten Bullen’s tenacity paid off as Brajan Gruda grabbed the equaliser in the 52nd minute.

However, their lead lasted a mere five minutes, as Nathaniel Brown finished a team move to put Bayern ahead once again in the 57th minute. Jamal Musiala added a late third goal in the 81st minute, sealing victory for the hosts, as Bayern ended their pre-season by lifting the Telekom Cup at home.

Important things we learned from Bayern Munich vs RB Leipzig:

1. Luis Diaz back among goals

Luis Diaz had a slow start to his pre-season campaign, arriving after Colombia’s FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign. The former Liverpool man made his pre-season debut for Bayern Munich with a quiet outing against Jeju. The Colombian then found the back of the net in a 27-minute appearance against Aston Villa. He also found the back of the net in tonight’s match in the 13th minute, marking his second goal in as many games.

2. Injury worry for Kompany

Just 10 minutes into the match, Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany suffered a big injury setback. Konrad Laimer started limping and had to be supported by the medical staff as he hobbled off the pitch. He looked to be in significant pain and had to be replaced by Sacha Boey. Fans will need to wait and see how long the Austrian will be out.

3. Bayern youngsters with mixed fortunes

Vincent Kompany fielded a youthful side in tonight’s match, but the youngsters had a mixed outing against Leipzig. 19-year-old winger Tim Binder has been promoted to the first team in pre-season, and he had a solid outing tonight.

20-year-old Arijon Ibrahimović, who returned from a loan at Heidenheim, had a much more anonymous outing as the lone striker, having just one touch in the opposition’s box. Tom Bischof also failed to stamp his authority on the midfield alongside Aleksandar Pavlovic and Joshua Kimmich.

4. David Raum’s mind elsewhere?

Over the last few seasons, David Raum has been one of the most important players for Leipzig. However, the left-back put in an unusually disappointing performance tonight, losing possession several times and failing to create enough chances. He has been strongly linked with a move to Manchester United, so one must wonder if this has gone to his head.

5. Gruda proving to be a shrewd purchase

Brajan Gruda’s loan move from Brighton to Leipzig in January flew under the radar. The Germany U-21 international scored three goals in 13 appearances during his first six months in the Bundesliga, prompting Leipzig to extend the loan for another season.

The youngster has repaid the faith shown in him by equalising in the second half with a fine finish. All signs point to Leipzig being tempted to activate the €30 million purchase option for Gruda.
