Sesko is not named in the matchday squad for the Manchester United vs Wrexham match.
Manchester United took on Wrexham in an exciting pre-season friendly clash at the Helsinki Olympic Stadium in Helsinki, Finland, on July 18. The Red Devils named their strongest available lineup for the fixture, but Benjamin Sesko is among the biggest names to miss out on the matchday squad.
Saturday’s match marks United’s first pre-season match ahead of the 2026-27 campaign. Most of the big names not taking part in the FIFA World Cup are starting, including summer signing Andrey Santos.
Bryan Mbeumo and Patrick Dorgu start on the flanks, and Joshua Zirkzee starts up front. Behind the forward is the exciting Jack Fletcher. Ayden Heaven and Harry Maguire start in central defence, with Leny Yoro and Luke Shaw completing the back four.

Why did Benjamin Sesko not play?

Head coach Michael Carrick earlier confirmed that Sesko will not be playing in tonight’s match, staying behind in the United Kingdom instead of travelling to Finland. The Slovenian striker is still recovering from the shin injury that he suffered against Liverpool in May.
As a result, he missed the last three matches at the end of the last campaign. With Slovenia not qualifying for the expanded 48-team FIFA World Cup 2026 in North America, he had an extended recovery period but still failed to recover in time to travel to Scandinavia.
The club, however, remains confident that the forward will be fit in time to take part at the start of the new campaign, with the Red Devils competing both for the English Premier League title and in the UEFA Champions League.
