The Old Lady were the better side against Xabi Alonso’s men!

Led by Luciano Spalletti, Juventus FC went head-to-head against the Premier League side Chelsea FC for their club friendly clash. Kai Tak Sports Park witnessed this close contest between these sides.

The Serie A giants have now come out on top with a 1-0 victory against the Blues. Despite the minimal efforts by the Bianconeri, Chelsea failed to contain them. Xabi Alonso’s men underperformed in defence and were not the best in the final third.

The Premier League side was without one of the important players, Cole Palmer. Due to this, they lacked control in the midfield and Juventus FC used this to their advantage. The Old Lady still need to work on their performance in the final third and it will be interesting to see their performances during the upcoming 2026-27 season.

Important things we learned from this match:

1. Defensive issues continue for Chelsea

The Blues have now conceded in all three of their pre-season games. Even though Chelsea did not allow many chances to the Old Lady, the lack of awareness from the Premier League players cost them. Edon Zhegrova scored a sensational goal from outside the box to break the deadlock in the 68th minute.

2. Squad depth a problem for Chelsea?

Despite having so many first-team players, the Blues have struggled in all of the fields. The midfield remains their ultimate strength, but Chelsea have a huge squad depth and they are unable to figure out where or when to deploy these players. Xabi Alonso must fix this issue as the new season is now around the corner.

3. Juventus with defensive solidity

The Old Lady did not allow Chelsea to fire the ball at the back of the net. The Blues came up with a two-striker setup of Joao Pedro and Danny Wellbeck, but they failed to get past the duo of Lloyd Kelly and Federico Gatti. Pierre Kalulu did very well at right back. With this defensive strength, Juventus are going to have a significant advantage against their opponents.

4. Mykhailo Mudryk returns

Mykhailo Mudryk was back on the field for Chelsea after almost two years. He was on the field for about 10 minutes, but was not very impactful. The Ukrainian forward is a capable star and can play a crucial role for the Blues in the upcoming 2026-27 season.

5. Positives for a bunch of youth stars

Chelsea came up with a setup which had multiple youth stars. They are going to have a positive outcome from this friendly. Juventus had a young Fabio Miretti in the attacking midfield area, who surely delivered an above-average performance. These pre-season friendlies continue to play a major role for youth development.

Who is Chelsea’s new manager?

Xabi Alonso.

Has Mykhailo Mudryk returned for Chelsea?

Yes, he was on the field for around the final 10 minutes during their recent friendly against Juventus.
