Cristian Romero has scored one goal in the ongoing 48-team World Cup in North America.
Argentina have been one of the standout teams in the FIFA World Cup 2026, with the defending champions scheduled to face England in the semi-finals on July 15. While Lionel Messi has led the scoring charts with eight strikes to his name, several unheralded heroes have also found the back of the net, including centre-back Cristian Romero.
The Tottenham Hotspur player has been one of the best players for La Albiceleste in the tournament, starting in all but one of his nation’s matches. His partnership with Lisandro Martinez in central defence is a key reason why La Albiceleste are pushing to become only the third team to successfully defend their World Cup title.
In addition to being rock solid in defence, Romero has also been effective at the other end of the pitch. In the Round of 16 clash against Egypt, the South American giants were trailing by two goals when Romero found the back of the net in the 79th minute.
This inspired a terrific comeback, with Lionel Messi and Enzo Fernandez scoring inside the next 15 minutes to fire the defending champions to the quarter-finals.
